The Pros and Cons of Chlorinated Water

Chlorine is essential to protect the public from disease, it’s added to kill any bacteria in drinking water supplies and the distribution system. The introduction of chlorine to U.S. municipal drinking water systems started in 1908 and resulted in a major decline in the death rate due to water born disease like Typhoid Fever, Cholera and Hepatitis A. In recent years, several of the public water systems in the Ozarks have started adding Chlorine to the water supply in order to meet State and Federal water quality standards to ensure the delivery of biologically safe drinking water.

While Chlorine is essential it destroys bacteria by attacking anything organic.  Chlorine chemically bonds with proteins in our hair and skin resulting in dry, brittle, dull looking hair and flaky, itchy skin.  It can irritate your eyes and lungs also.  Most of our Chlorine Exposure is by bathing in chlorinated water, as opposed to drinking it.  The hot steam in the bath allows the skin and lungs absorb Chlorine directly into the body.  Chlorine also damages clothing and linens during washing along with plumbing fixtures and appliances. Despite the undesirable effects of Chlorine, current technology does not offer a safer more effective option.

While bottled water or filters offer chlorine free drinking water, chlorine removal for the entire home is the best way to protect your Family Home or Business. Always Soft Water Conditioners now offers one solution for both Chlorine Removal and Softening. By providing Soft Chlorine Free Water, Hellenbrand’s ProMate 6.0 Dual Media Technology reduces equipment costs and floor space needed while also saving time and money by preventing the damage caused by both water hardness and chlorine.
